During this time I was also working at a demanding full time job. It all became too much, and culminated in a nervous breakdown. They would take images and say to me you, everything looks fine, you have a strong body! They did comment I had some anxiety but I thought it was because of the pain. I did go and see a well respected psychologist for an initial appointment and she told me 'You have a neck problem, you are in too much pain to deal with your issues right now, come back when your neck doesn't hurt'. I managed to convince an ER doctor to get an emergency appointment with a neurologist and he also pronounced me fine with no issues.
