So, it’s a no- brainer that if we don’t breathe properly, it can lead to problems all over our body. It’s not a new concept. Sarno published his best-selling book, Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection, in 1991. Since then, the book and its follow-up editions have risen to near cult status. Forbes even called him “America’s best doctor.”
About us Many doctors still think Sarno’s views on back pain are off I don't know how I stumbled upon these reviews initially. I do know that it was after a year of entirely disabling, perplexing, and shifting symptoms that culminated with a "herniated disc" diagnosis, an epidural steroid injection that made things worse, and ever-increasing dispair that I would ever have my once very active life back. Since these reviews are what led me to read this book (despite the fact that I'm scientifically minded and inclined to believe and trust doctors in general, maybe too much), I thought I would add my own story. For the record (since I doubted whether these reviews were real - it seems implausible), I am a REAL person. This is difficult to believe, but real.
1 to 2 cups of Epsom salt Cure Back Pain Without Drugs An interesting book. A friend of mine told me this book cured her long-standing back pain issue. Although I don't currently suffer from back pain, I was sufficiently intrigued to want to know more. Dr John E. Sarno identifies a condition he refers to as TMS, which stands for Tension Myositis Syndrome. In a nutshell, Sarno believes that TMS is a condition whereby some physical pain (in this case back pain) is actually caused by the subconscious mind repressing emotions. To overcome the pain, the ...more
Filmmaker Michael Galinsky, a patient of Sarno’s and co-director of the upcoming documentary All The Rage, which chronicles the filmmaker’s ongoing struggle with back pain and includes high-profile chronic pain patients, such as Larry David, John Stossel, Howard Stern, Jonathan Ames and Sen. Tom Harkin — all of whom found relief from Sarno’s methods.
Feedback Adult & Child ADHD Regular applications of ice to the painful areas on your back may help reduce pain and inflammation from an injury. Try this several times a day for up to 20 minutes each time. Wrap the ice pack in a thin towel to protect your skin. After a few days, switch to heat. Apply a heating pad or warm pack to help relax your muscles and increase blood flowing to the affected area. You also can try warm baths to help with relaxation. To avoid burns and tissue damage, never sleep on a heating pad.

☰ Let the buyer of this book beware. Don't try to diagnose yourself. I think Dr. Sarno's approach probably works for a lot of people, but it wasn't right for me. If the Sarno method works for you, God bless you and Dr. Sarno. If it doesn't seem to be working, keep talking to your doctors and don't be too quick to assume that it's all in your head. In Dr. Sarno's own words, "Pain syndromes must always be properly studied to rule out serious disorders such as cancer, tumors, bone disease and many other conditions."
1. Stop covering up your feelings. In the past, if someone said something offensive towards me, I would cover up the feeling by thinking about it, rationalizing why they said, what they said, the context, blah blah blah but the FEELING is what is important. My mind would say I'm not offended but the truth is I am. FEEL THAT FEELING and tell yourself it's ok to feel this. I am ok.
The Mindbody Prescription: Healing the Body, Healing the Pain Broché What I found surprised me: Many of these approaches really do seem to help, though often with modest effects. But when you compare even those small benefits with the harm we’re currently doing while medically “treating” back pain, the horror of the status quo becomes clear. “No one dies of low back pain,” one back pain expert, University of Amsterdam assistant professor Sidney Rubinstein, summed up, “but people are now dying from the treatment.”
His books, including the best-selling “Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection,” became popular largely through word of mouth. Thousands of people have claimed to have been cured by reading them.
Cigarettes aren't just hell on your heart and lungs. "Smokers have a higher incidence of recurring back problems," Dr. Katz says. The cause and effects of this are many. Nicotine restricts blood flow to vertebrae and disks, so they may age and break down more quickly. It may also interfere with the body's ability to absorb and use calcium, leading to osteoporosis-related bone and back problems. You know what you have to do: Quit.
