For example, if long periods of sitting in a car or at a desk make the pain worse, then set a timer to get up every 20 minutes and walk around or gently stretch. If standing makes the pain worse, avoid chores that require standing such as washing dishes at the sink. Avoiding, or minimizing, activities and positions that worsen the pain will help prevent or reduce painful back spasms and allow for a better healing environment.

Dont miss this book if u ever felt back pain. It changed my life from a person who had become fearful of sitting for more than 10 min, going out of home for long and what not. It brought me back to my mountaineering, soccer days. Within a few weeks of listening to this book I was back on a trek at an altitude of 4400 mts and finished the trek in 2 days instead of avg 4 days. I started running after a period of year and a half. I bought back shoes for trekking, running and soccer all of which I had thrown away as doctors had said I would never be able to resume these activities. This book happens to be the biggest bliss to back pain sufferers. THere are no words to thank Dr Sarno for this approach to deal with back pain. Cheers Dr Sarno !!!
160 Poor Posture, Poor Mood HIP FLEXOR STRETCH At one point, we were going to call the movie Unthinkable, because these ideas are simply unthinkable for the majority of people. But I see a massive shift in culture. Four years ago, when we started working on the film again, I had a Google alert set for chronic pain. It was entirely device manufacturers, PR releases for drugs, and pain clinics. I’d say a third of it now are articles that recognize the connection between stress and illness. And there’s tons of stuff about mindfulness and meditation.
