The evidence of mind-body connection is definitely recognise-able as a cause and I will be looking into it further. Would of liked more reference to specific pain and emotions however I’ll be reading another of his books to gather more information.
I am 34 and have had back pain for 3+ years which started after a bar opened up next door to me and I was forced to move a few months later due to the noise. The pain came on one morning and by lunchtime a colleague at work had to take me to the hospital because my back was locked in spasm and I could not stand up. I was always active, walking and biking to work, but now I had so much tension in my back muscles everything hurt. With relaxants I began walking again, but it was never the same and I would sometimes spend days in bed reading because everything seemed to cause spasms. Over the following 3 years I saw doctors, had x-rays, MRI, Neurologist, physiatrist, podiatrist, and twice each had three month sessions with; chiropractor, osteopath, masseuse, and acupucture. The only thing that helped a bit to release the tension was valium or whiskey, but even that was minimal. I described to each doctor or specialist I met that it started when a bar opened up next to me, but none of them saw a correlation.

It is somewhat of a coincidence that you mention Dr. Sarno's work, as I have just read one of his books within the last few months. I started to develop back pain only while I was sitting at work. I moved to a desk that allowed me to stand up and sit down, and then I started to feel intense pain in my hand while typing. On the weekends I would go rock climbing (which is great to release suppressed anger), and my body would feel 100% until I returned to work on Monday. I googled wrist pain and fell upon Dr. Sarno's name, read his book, and all pain was gone by the very next workweek (and it has not returned). The material seems like complete baloney, but I'd rather get great results as a fool than suffer a bad outcome as a genius or a skeptic. It's actually quite a relief that a scientist such as yourself is granting some credibility to his perhaps less than rigorous findings (although I won't be the judge of his credibility). It is no stretch of the imagination that the mind, given all of the pain it is capable of creating, is capable of creating the sensation of pain in the body.
