But if you're struggling, know this: You're definitely not alone. Most people experience back pain at some point in their lives, and it's one of the most common reasons people book doctor's appointments and call out of work. It's also one of the leading causes of disability worldwide.
Upper back pain can last for a short time or become chronic if the pain lasts more than 3 months. Expression of pain can be dull pain and sudden sharp pain. Your upper back may have constant pain or it may only be pain when you are exercising, such as picking up goods or working for a long time. Sometimes, the pain will appear on one side of the neck, and then spread to the other. The pain can range from mild to severe, causing the head and neck to be affected. In particular, severe pain may spread to the shoulders and arms.
Method: If it’s inconvenient for you to attend a yoga class, you can practice at home. Videos that demonstrate yoga poses for back pain are available online. You can also purchase ‘yoga for back pain’ DVDs. For best results, aim to do at least two 60-minute yoga sessions a week.

I found that cutting caffeine and really pushing water was when I had the first noticeable improvement. Allowing the body to rehydrate the disks was something I learned from a nurse practitioner and it allowed me to really begin the exercise therapy. Others recommended bicycling. I cannot do that still. It causes too much side to side movement on the lower back. The only bicycling I can do is on a recumbent stationary. My greatest luck has been with pilates type exercises for the core and light to moderate weight training. Even after five years I cannot stand at the counter and do dishes with out significant pain. I cannot stand on concrete floors for more then about forty-five minutes without developing a limp. For pain, my best friend is my TENS machine.
